This panel is just above the heads of the commander and pilot when they are seated. They use switches on the overhead panel for communicating with ground control as well as with crew members in other parts of the shuttle or outside during EVAs. There are also controls for navigating the Shuttle. The General Purpose Computers (GPCs) are activated from here. The Star Trackers, the Orbital Maneuvering System (OMS),  and the Reaction Control System (RCS) can be operated from this panel as well.
